Our history

Mansfields is now owned and managed by Jason Mansfield, the grandson of Fred Fryer who, as a schoolboy, walked through the streets of London between the first and second world wars, pushing a barrow of fresh fruit and calling out for customers to buy his wares.

Although Mansfields has always prided itself in supplying only the very best produce, our business has seen many changes since its inception. In the late 1980s having spent 25 years supplying the retail trade, Philip Mansfield realised that society was changing. Eating out was becoming increasingly popular and restaurants were opening up fast. Mansfields understood there was now a demand to provide these establishments with the quality of goods they were supplying the retail trade, thus beginning the long relationship with clients within the Thames Valley, many of whom we are still working with today.

Jason himself has worked in the industry since he was a schoolboy, building up a catalogue of knowledge from a young age. Jason is immensely proud of the business that he runs and has embraced the advantages that a modern, professionally run organisation brings. However, as he is keen to emphasise, “For me, maintaining the ethics and core values of a family run business that offers a personal service is of upmost importance. My team at Mansfields, many of whom have been with the business for over 10 years, see no reason why service can’t be personal as well as professional. This ethos is at the heart of all we do”.
